Study on Business Potential and Major Players of CERAMICS Industry in Indonesia –Ceramic industry is one of strategic industries of which the raw materials are abundant. Also, it absorbs many workers and is supported by greatly domestic markets. Although in 2017 ceramic industry in the country did not grow as expected, in upcoming years ceramic industry is believed to be enthusiastic. It is seen from the awakening of construction sectors in Indonesia either building construction (shopping centers, hotels, apartments) or house complexes.
The development of tile ceramic production (floor and wall) in the last five years (2013 – 2017) increased by 10.3% per annum from 247.52 million M2 in 2013 to 366.59 million M2 in 2017. Whereas, the production of granite tiles went up by 10.5% per annum on the average from 22.80 million M2 in 2013 to 33.94 million M2 in 2017. The rising production was due to some expansions performed by ceramic producers like ARWANA Group, Satyaraya Keramindoindah, Angsa Daya, Muliakeramik Indahraya, Keramik Diamond Industries and others.
Indonesian ceramic products are also highly enjoyed by international markets and they have high competitive ability due to their quality. According to a research of CDMI Consulting, Indonesian ceramic export had kept on increasing in the last five years (2013 – 2017). In 2013, the export of ceramic tiles reached 36.85 million square meters (M2) valued US$ 44.22 million escalated to 51.69 million M2 valued US$ 75.87 million. The largest destination countries are South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, Australia and USA.
