Solar Power Plant (PLTS) becomes one of priorities in grand energy strategy which keeps on being developed by Indonesian government. As a country located in equator, Indonesia has abundant solar energy potential. With sunlight along the year, it is estimated that Indonesian solar energy which can be produced reaches 4.8 KWh/m2.
Indonesia, through Stated Owned Electricity Company (PLN) and private investors have kept on adding the number of PLTS, either adding total power plants or produced electric capacity. New PLTS will mostly be constructed in tiny islands in Indonesia.
Based on a research of CDMI that in the last five years (2016 – 2020) the installed capacity of National PLTS had kept on increasing from 58,416 MW in 2016 to 69,678 MW in 2019 and predicted to have reached 99,305 MW in 2020. The same increase also occurs in the capability of PLTS. In 2016, the capability of PLTS was 51,715 MW rose to 62,632 MW in 2019 and predicted to have reached 87,050 MW in 2020.
Foreign investors from various countries are enthusiastic to invest their capital in clean energy sector. The latest is that PLN cooperates with MASDAR, an energy company of Arab Emirate Union to construct Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant (PLTS) with a capacity of 145 W and an investment of US$ 129 million. There is also the construction of PLTS with a capacity of 70 MW located in Special Economic Zone (KEK) Labuan Bajo, Nusa Tenggara Timur by an investor of Norway.
